Handley Offers to Work Out The Details

April 29, 2011

Why Matt Carey should have to email Handley to work out the details is beyond me, but Handley appears to be willing to uphold his end of the deal. I guess the emailing has to deal with transferring the Offit domain site over.

In the process, though, he shows himself to be without an irony meter.

Handley writes, “5 months late, Matt Carey, a research staff member at Hitachi GST, with a PhD in physics from UCSD, has revealed himself to be the notorious blogger ‘Sullivan.'”

5 months late? Just because the AoA writers write under their own names is no obligation for others to do so, especially in light of the fact that AoA and its readership can be vicious in trying to get people they dislike fired from their jobs, and especially in light of the generalized nastiness that they engage in on a regular basis (think the Thanksgiving dinner with their “enemies” eating a baby).

Then Handley calls anyone who’s pointed out his promise “ravenous members of the dark side” but then assures Matt that since Matt is a parent, Handley has “no interest in writing about or attacking other parents, and you can expect similar treatment. My enemies are the AAP, CDC, and the vaccine makers themselves, as well as their well-paid minions. Since you don’t appear to be in any of those camps and have a kid just like me, I don’t have the heart.”

Ok, I’m a parent with three on the spectrum, I’m not in the AAP, CDC, a maker of vaccines, or one of their well-paid minions, but he’s just placed me, Kev, Liz, Todd, and Orac as ravenous members of the dark side” and none of us meet that criteria, unless you believe Crosby’s tortured logic dealing with Orac and a pharmaceutical company providing money to the university Orac’s at. I consider being categorized as a ravenous members of the dark side” an attack, but since he didn’t name any of us, I guess he feels like he’s covered all his bases.

Notice that as far as he’s concerned, anyone who works for these organizations, whether they are parents to autistic kids or not, are his enemies. Really? So, he will attack parents and do so constantly (Paul Offit and Seth Mnookin are parents), so it’s not a commitment to be decent to people who have kids. It’s not a commitment to attack ideas, not people, either.

Let’s hope Handley honors his promise and never again mentions Offit’s name. You realize, though, that his promise only related to himself. I’m sure his fellow AoAers are free to continue to distort, mislead, and attack Offit to their hearts’ content.
